is this exciting, or what?

No, I’m not performing WITH Kathleen Battle and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields (someday, perhaps?)
I’ll be performing with my jazz trio at Mazzoleni Hall in the Royal Conservatory of Music on September 30 at 1PM as part of the Koerner Hall 10th Anniversary Opening Festival. Tickets are free, but you have to grab them the moment they become available on Sept. 24 at 10AM. Details on my event page.

my favourite hobby

on May 13 The Toronto Star published an interview with me about my love of scrabble. The article was promoting a fundraiser called “Scrabble with the Stars” which raises money for PAL (Performing Arts Lodges) Canada. PAL provides housing and support for elderly and retired performing artists. It’s an incredible organization which I am proud to help support any way I can – especially by playing scrabble! I talk about scrabble and jazz and how they’re both related.

Here is a link to the article.

I thought it was pretty cool that they chose to use a photo from my performance of Buster Keaton’s “Sherlock Jr.” at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. After all, writing a silent film score is certainly a puzzle.

And just in case you haven’t seen the film, here it is!

I’m so thrilled to be playing 2 shows on Mother’s Day at the wonderful Jazz Bistro in Toronto. I just love playing there! The piano is fabulous, the food is great and the sound is second to none. I’m super excited to be playing with multi-instrumentalist Colleen Allen and bassist George Koller. You can find more details on my show page.

I’m thrilled to be accompanying Sensation Seekers, a newly restored fabulous Lois Weber film for the Toronto Silent Film Festival on Saturday, April 7. The film stars the sensational Billie Dove. Speakeasy scenes, Charleston, Black Bottom, Shimmy. This film has is all. My score will include a lot of Duke Ellington from the 20’s. It’s been a ton of work and so much fun to put this together!

Mom’s Night Out!

April 12, 2017

in News

This Mother’s Day, May 14 make it Mom’s Night Out at the Jazz Bistro! I can’t wait to perform with George Koller and Mark Kelso. The piano, sound, food and ambiance at the Jazz Bistro are second to none, and I am thrilled to be performing new and old favourites from my jazz repertoire with these tremendous musicians. Please join us for a night of fun, frivolity, beauty, elegance and a few surprises.

I am so grateful to Mervon Mehta and the Royal Conservatory for featuring my quartet at the beautiful Mazzoleni Concert Hall. Our sold crowd was wonderfully enthusiastic. George Koller, Nick Fraser, Bill McBirnie and I had a tremendous time!

I just spent three glorious weeks at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity as a Musician in Residence. I practiced and practiced, composed, performed, collaborated with wonderful musicians and was inspired by artists of multiple disciplines. I climbed mountains, took gondola rides, strolled around Lake Louise, ate too much, drank delicious tea and said hello to deer. Thank you to the Banff Centre for awarding me with the Elmer and Hilda Hildebrand Artist Award. I’m truly grateful.
